More JSK in Philadelphia
After a successful run of A DOLL’S HOUSE at FringeArts, we are now ready to show the audience in Philadelphia two of our other success productions: THE BORDER and THERE. Wednesday to Saturday this week we will show both shows each night at the FringeArts theatre.
“The human nature is and has always been tempted to cross whatever borders there are.”
Jo Strømgren
THE BORDER is just back from touring Greenland, to great acclaim from the audiences there. This stunning duet weaves theater and dance, humor and sensuality, to tell a story that unfolds from a classic drama into the surreal dynamics of irrational human behavior. Border conflicts exist everywhere: between nations, lovers, enemies, dreams and reality, the past and the future. It is only natural to want to cross them, even when it’s against one’s better judgment.
“Excellent production that resonates on many levels.”
Artsmart, South Africa
“The outsider look has always been linked to art—and who are more outsiders than dissidents?”
Jo Stømgren
THERE is one of Jo Strømgren Kompani’s company’s most popular shows and features former Soviet Union dissidents stranded on a journey between East and West. In an interzonal holding area with wooden shipping crates—perhaps a warehouse, perhaps the hull of a ship—they wrestle, they dance, they sing, they yearn for what they’ve lost. By turns Vaudevillian, poetic, and balletic, THERE is a work of dance–theater about choosing the unknown or going back to what you came from.
“The result is impressive ensemble work from four performers whose look of unforced, alert connection adds to the mystery and sadness.”
New York Times, USA
“14 years later THERE still offers a great amount of theatrical magic.”
Adresseavisen, Norway
The performances of THE BORDER and THERE at FringeArts is supported by The Norwegian Foreign Ministry, the Norwegian Consulate General and The Norwegian Arts Council.
