RUN AT THE NATIONAL THEATRE in MADRID

Centro Dramático Nacional presents the company with an 8-show run of THE CONVENT and THE EXPERIMENT. October 21st to 24th at venue Teatro Valle-Inclán. Jo Strømgren will also hold talks with both professionals and audience.

This run is quite a special occasion since the venue is where Jo Strømgren decided to pursue an artistic career. In 1987, when Strømgren was a 17 year old exchange student, the Teatro Valle-Inclán was the legendary Sala Olimpia presenting the “vanguardia” of Spanish and international theatre. Madrid was still in “la movida” with a vibrant attitude of everything being possible. Perhaps the combination of time and place, along with teenage curiosity, made the choice easy. During that whole season the pattern was the same – cheap ticket (unless one could find a way to sneak in for free), a beer at the newly opened Cine Doré afterwards, and then digesting the impressions while walking back to Cuatro Caminos. Which is a pretty long distance.
