East–European mini tour for THERE

For the first time in the company’s history we are visiting Ukraine! This week the cast and crew of There are going to be part of Zelyonka Fest Сontemporary Dance Festival in Kiev. We are really excited to show this particular production in this area of Europe right now. After the performance in Kiev, There moves on to the place where the journey started 15 years ago: New Baltic Dance in Vilnius, Lithuania.

THERE is one of the company’s greatest successes, with more than 100 performances all over the world. The story of four Soviet dissidents stranded in the interzonal area between East and West, haunted by the music of their past, have touched audiences from Moscow to Philadelphia. Existential doubt becomes a heartbreaking reality, and wild mood swings rule the atmosphere of human insecurity – they wrestle, they dance, they sing, they yearn for what they’ve lost.

Zelyonka Fest is the main annual event of the non-profit and non-governmental cultural organization Zelyonka. Zelyonka’s main activity is focused on preparing, organizing and running educational and cultural events in the area of contemporary dance and creating possibilities for the development of dance community and audience of contemporary dance and dance theatre in Ukraine.
Since 2014, the Ukrainian Contemporary Dance Platform has been held within the festival Zelyonka Fest. This platform offers the audience an opportunity of not only watching the works of Ukrainian choreographers of contemporary dance, but also meeting them after the show. Jo Strømgren Kompani will in addition to presenting There arrange a workshop for the local dance community.
