Come experience this both dazzling and sinister concert-drama featuring Anja Garbarek, dancer Line Tørmoen and viola-player Bergmund Waal Skaslien.
The Road is Just a Surface was originally commissioned by the Bergen International Festival and premiered there to great acclaim on the 26th of May.
Anja Garbarek is releasing her new album on the 31st of August on Drabant Records.
It is available in two editions, “Red” and “Yellow”. The Red concept album, the full theatrical version, is a dazzling and sinister soundscape that stretches for more than 70 uninterrupted minutes. On the Yellow edition, the songs have been edited and remixed to offer a different route into Garbarek’s melodic pop art.
“I always create music and lyrics to accompany the images in my head,” says Anja Garbarek. “This time, the images were inspired by a number of documentaries about psychiatric disorders. We are all vulnerable in one way or another, losing grip or meeting apparently invincible resistance. The challenge lies in breaking the old routines that inhibit us, permitting us to move on.”
